11081314_1072980816051340_4133130860141511257_nIn everything you do, there is the “rule of diminishing returns.” It can be easy to good at something, but then getting better at something takes a lot more effort, and getting great at something takes an extreme amount of effort.

That being said, you have to be good before you can be great! So whether you’re here for Brazilian jiu jitsu or kids martial arts we’re dedicated to teaching you the basics on which everything else is based.

Learn the Basics: Far too often we have beginners who come in saying “I saw a video of the gogoplata on YouTube, can you teach me that?” While we admire the enthusiasm, there are years of practice and discipline between them and a gogoplata. It’s important to learn the basics before moving on to more difficult (and often impractical) moves for two reasons. First of all, it’s important that neither you nor your opponent are hurt. Second, if you only know complex moves you’ll easily be defeated by those who know the basics better than you. Speaking of which…

Master the Basics: You can’t just learn the basics, you have to master them! The most basic of moves…both how to perform them but also how to counter them…are the heart of any martial art, and the person most comfortable with basic moves is going to come out on top.

Get Better: Once you’ve mastered the basics, we’re more than happy to teach you more so that you have a strong arsenal of moves, whether it’s for BJJ, Muay Thai, or MMA. In fact, we expect you to get better and to constantly learn and improve.

At SubForce BJJ and Dragon Spirit, we ask it of you because we ask it of ourselves! We should all endeavor to be the best in our chose martial art. Get started today by checking out our schedule.
