bjj ctaOver the past year our online presence has really grown here at Subforce BJJ and Dragon Spirit. We’ve posted dozens of blogs, everything from “do martial arts classes make my child violent” to “what the teachers learn from their students when teaching Brazilian jiu jitsu.”

Sometimes you have to take a step back and take a look at the big picture…why do adults and kids alike want to join us in our mixed martial arts, muay thai training, and Brazilian jiu jitsu classes? There are actually quite a few answers to that question. Let’s take a look.

Self-Defense: One of the greatest aspects of a martial art is that you can take it with you wherever you go. You can’t drop it, you can’t leave it behind the walk-through metal detector, it’s not confiscated from you at school. So when someone is accosting you and the situation is right, martial arts is a great way to defend yourself. Brazilian jiu jitsu is perhaps the best example of a “self-defense” martial art, because it allows a smaller, weaker person to take full control of the situation and defend themselves against a more powerful opponent. It’s also great because it’s so obviously a defensive martial art so that you don’t appear to be the aggressor.

Exercise Your Body: No matter what martial arts classes you take, you’re going to get some good exercise. And we’re not just talking about cardio, either. You’ll also be building muscle and burning fat, on top of getting more limber as you stretch and move in ways that you didn’t know you could!

Exercise Your Mind: Martial arts (specifically Brazilian jiu jitsu) is great exercise for the mind. It’s like a chess game of moves, where you have to think quickly in order to decide how to defend against your opponent’s latest move.

Make Friends: Participating in martial arts classes is a great way to make friends. After all, you’re in friendly competition with other people, but you’re working toward the same goal and going through the same experiences. It’s a great place to find like-minded people who are interested in both competition and exercise.

Competition: While everyone spars in class, not everyone who takes our BJJ and MMA classes is interested in competing in matches against opponents from other academies and towns. But many people view the competition as one of the most important goals, and we can help you get there if competing is important to you.

Fun!: No doubt about it, taking mixed martial arts and Brazilian jiu jitsu classes is just a lot of fun. Fun becomes the culmination of all of the above: it’s a great combination of exercising your mind and your body at the same time, all the while hanging out with friends and learning something new.

No doubt about it, martial arts training is a great way to spend you time. You’ll be getting exercise, learning something new, and that much closer to defending yourself in every situation. If you’re ready to start a class, give us a call and schedule your free session today! 210-355-2259.
